Meet Kayd: 2025 Champion Child
At just 18 weeks into pregnancy, Kayd’s parents received news that would change their lives forever. During a routine anatomy scan, they learned their baby girl would be born with a complex heart condition called double outlet right ventricle—a diagnosis that meant multiple surgeries and lifelong care.
Kayd was born on March 29, 2018, and she’s been a fighter from day one.
At just 7 weeks old, Kayd underwent her first open-heart surgery—the hardest of all. Her tiny body endured what no child should have to face, but she pulled through with incredible strength. After 21 days in the hospital, her family finally got to take her home.
Later that year, in October 2018, low oxygen levels led to a second surgery. This time, she bounced back quickly and returned home just in time for Halloween—a bright spot in a difficult journey.
For the next few years, Kayd lived life like any other little girl—playing, laughing, and growing. But in February 2023, her family learned that a third surgery was needed. It was a complex procedure, but once again, Kayd showed the world her bravery. After 13 days in the hospital, she was back home, recovering and growing stronger every day.
Today, Kayd is thriving. She loves gymnastics, attends a homeschool co-op, and brings light to everyone who meets her. Thanks to the expert care she’s received at Children’s Hospital and the support of Children’s Health Foundation, Kayd is healthy, happy, and full of life.
Her journey reminds us all of the power of resilience, the importance of world-class pediatric care, and the incredible impact of a community that believes kids like Kayd deserve the very best.
We’re proud to share her story—and honored to cheer her on every step of the way.
